Hortensia Laqué Rupérez

PROFESSIONAL

Hortensia Laqué Rupérez is a lawyer specialising in civil and commercial litigation and insolvency law.

She focuses on leading complex civil and commercial litigation, with particular experience in contractual disputes, construction litigation, inheritance disputes and shareholder conflicts, especially challenges to corporate resolutions.

Her litigation practice has been recognised by the prestigious US directory Best Lawyers, which has named her “Lawyer of the Year” in Litigation on three occasions: 2021, 2023 and 2026.

She also has extensive experience advising companies in situations of crisis, restructuring and insolvency, an area in which she has been a pioneer in the use of pre-insolvency mechanisms.

She was appointed independent expert by Commercial Court No. 2 of Málaga in the first pre-pack processed in Andalusia, and has particular experience in the sale and acquisition of business units. She has also acted as lead counsel in some of the most significant insolvency proceedings in Andalusia and as counsel for creditors in insolvency proceedings before Commercial Courts throughout Spain.

In refinancing and corporate restructuring, her practice covers the design of pre-insolvency strategy and the analysis and assessment of clawback and liability risks arising from transactions.

BACKGROUND

Since 2019 she has been the partner heading the Litigation and Insolvency practice at Welllaw Abogados. She previously developed her career at Garrigues (2002-2019), in its Litigation and Insolvency department, where she was Principal Associate and Counsel at the firm’s Málaga office.

TEACHING

She has taught on the Master’s Degree in Restructuring at Universidad Loyola in Seville and on the Corporate Restructuring Practice Course of the Málaga Bar Association. She has also lectured on the Master’s Degree in Access to the Legal Profession at the University of Málaga and at the Sports Law Chair of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.

PUBLICATIONS AND SPEAKING

She is a regular speaker at seminars, conferences and events organised by professional associations, business forums and other specialised bodies, and contributes opinion articles to the media on matters within her areas of expertise.
