The international guide Best Lawyers® has included Welllaw Abogados in its Best Law Firms® – Spain 2027 rankings. The firm is ranked Tier 1 in Málaga for Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Litigation and Tax Law, and Tier 2 for Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

In addition, all three of the firm’s partners are individually recognised in The Best Lawyers in Spain™:

• Federico Pérez-Padilla, managing partner, for Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions Law.
• Emilio Pérez de la Blanca, for Tax Law and Litigation. He was named Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year for Tax Law in Málaga in the 2023 edition.
• Hortensia Laqué Rupérez, for Insolvency and Reorganization Law and Litigation. She was named Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year for Litigation in Málaga in the 2021, 2023 and 2026 editions.

Best Lawyers compiles its lists through peer review, in which lawyers assess colleagues practising in the same area.

This recognition reflects the work of the whole Welllaw team and the trust placed in us by our clients. The firm’s profile can be viewed on Best Law Firms.

Welllaw Abogados was among the award recipients at the 8th Awards of the Business Viability Chair (Cátedra de Viabilidad Empresarial) of the University of Málaga, in recognition of ten years of contribution and support to the Chair.

The ceremony was held in the main hall of the University of Málaga’s Rectorate building, together with the presentation of the 10th Vicente García Martín Awards for academic research in the field of business. This year the Chair also recognised the DisOfic group, for its track record in the stationery sector, and the ATValor group, for its work in appraisal and valuation services.

We are grateful to the Chair and to the University of Málaga for recognising a decade of collaboration, which encourages us to continue supporting research into, and the sharing of knowledge on, business viability and continuity.

On 30 August 2021, the Málaga business magazine Vida Económica published a feature on Welllaw Abogados entitled «Welllaw Abogados, especialistas en asesoramiento legal y fiscal de empresas» (legal and tax advice for businesses).

The article looks back at the firm’s history since it was founded in 2014 by Federico Pérez-Padilla and Emilio Pérez de la Blanca, the arrival of Hortensia Laqué Rupérez as a partner, and the cross-disciplinary advice we provide to companies in corporate, tax and finance, employment, litigation and insolvency matters.

Among other things, the feature highlights:

• the firm’s international and technology focus, supporting local companies as they expand abroad and international groups as they establish themselves in Málaga;
• our experience in tax planning, business restructurings, refinancing agreements and the purchase and sale of companies and business units;
• the firm’s move in 2020 to larger offices in Málaga;
• the recognition of Hortensia Laqué as Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year 2021 for Litigation (an award she received again in 2023 and 2026).

As Federico Pérez-Padilla put it in the interview, the aim is for every client to feel that theirs is not just another case, but their case.
